Cambodian Village Fund Launches Dollar Drive--Nancy calculated that if each of our 40,000 friends contributed just one dollar, we could build the first 5-classrooms for the Kuan Khlong primary school. So we launched our Dollar Drive. One small problem--we need a LOT of new friends. So pass the word on to your friends and, who knows, they might become our friends.
Our First Newsletter--We've published our first newsletter. We sent it to about 250 people. If you want to be added to our email list, complete the form on our Home Page.
Olympathon--In May, our friend, Ginger Allen, organized an "Olympathon" at Skyline Elementary School in Solana Beach. About 50 children completed an hour of games and running to raise money for our school. A Solana Beach city council member congratulated the kids and two newspapers ran stories and pictures of the event. We made $2,000 and plan to purchase playground equipment with the money.
Chris Hassett Benefit Concert--On April 30th, we had our biggest fundraiser to date—a concert by San Diego singer-songwriter Chris Hassett. The concert made over $5,000! It was produced by AMSD Concerts and held at the Normal Heights United Methodist Church. Chris debuted a song, "We Are the Village", written for the Cambodian Village Fund. Yoga Fund Raiser--On March 27, 2010, our friend Arati Lane, a certified Yoga instructor, volunteered her time to conduct a Yoga class. Thirty people attended the yoga class held at the Kensington Community Church generating over $900 for the school.
Site Preparation for Classroom Building Complete--In July 2009 we financed the preparation of the land for the new classroom building. This part of the project involved moving over 8500 cubic yards of dirt from the nearby temple to the school site. Click here to learn more about our school project.
