Project 3--A New Classroom Building

Our next challenge is to build a new classroom building for the Prey Tauch Village Primary School. There is currently only one 9-room classroom building for 750 primary school children. To accommodate all the children the school is forced to run two shifts--morning and afternoon--so each child can only go to school for half days. With a new classroom building the children will be able to go to school full days.

Planning for the New Classroom

The land for the new building has been donated by the temple that is adjacent to the school. In July 2009 the Cambodian Village Fund financed a project to prepare the land for the new classroom. This involved moving fill from a pit (which was developed into a pond) to the school site. This project cost $4500.

Village and school officials have had meetings to determine the specifications for the new building:

  • 9 classrooms
  • 1 library
  • 1 bathroom
  • Cost--$100,000

An architect has drawn up plans for the building. Click here to download a PDF file with architectural drawings.
