19-year old Mei Mei is the 3rd daughter in a family of 5 children. Her parents are farmers. Because of their age and poor health they earn very little money. They live 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the high school. Everyday Mei Mei got up early for the long bike ride over very difficult roads to get to school. In spite of the adversity, Mei Mei ranked 6th of 48 students in her 12th grade class, passed the high school exit exam and received her high school diploma. She was offered a scholarship to study banking and finance at the University of Battambang, but did not have money to cover room, board, books, uniforms or food. With financial help from the Gendercide Awareness Project and the Cambodian Village Fund Mey Mey is now enrolled in college.
