Kaun Klong School’s First-Ever Computer Lab
In rural Cambodia, most families can’t afford computers, the internet is unreliable, and electricity can be hit or miss. For many students, technology feels worlds away. That’s why the launch of a brand-new computer lab at Kaun Klong Primary School was a huge milestone. Watch a video here. Thanks to Soroptimist International of La Jolla, students can learn essential computer skills—bringing 21st-century education directly into their hands. The lab’s opening also marked the final requirement for Kaun Klong to be recognized by Cambodia’s Ministry of Education as a Model School. To make it all possible, solar panels were installed to provide reliable power, generously donated by Roger and Ruth Kaspar. While the equipment is in place, our next challenge is building a sustainable program—one with a thoughtful curriculum and trained instructors. If you have computer expertise and would like to help shape the future of these students, please reach out to us at billandnancy@cambodianvillagefund.org.

A Spark for Science
Volunteer scientist Chris Kaspar, a graduate from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo CA, spent four months in Prey Touch commune launching an extracurricular science program in the brand-new computer lab at Kaun Klong School. During his stay, Chris lived on-site in CVF’s newly built volunteer house—a modern home with AC and hot water, funded to support future volunteer efforts. Get a glimpse into our beautiful modern volunteer house. Chris’s time, travel, and teaching were generously sponsored by Bob and Joan Field. He worked closely with English teacher Vichet, a local educator deeply committed to his students. Though the science program is extracurricular, it aligns with Cambodia’s growing push to strengthen science education in public schools. The Ministry of Education is paying attention—and we’re proud to be part of the momentum. And because learning should be fun, Chris also introduced frisbee to the students, organizing tournaments that quickly became a hit. The kids adored him—and they’re already hoping for his return.
