Volunteer Program

Our Volunteer Program changes the lives of community members and volunteers alike, creating meaningful impact for all.

About the Program

Cambodian Village Fund’s Volunteer Program places skilled individuals directly in Kaun Khlong Village, where they live on the primary school campus and work alongside Cambodian educators and staff. Volunteers support afterschool programs, teacher training, and community initiatives that expand educational opportunity for rural students.

With an emphasis on relationship-building and sustainability, volunteers collaborate with local teachers, assist with curriculum enrichment, introduce practical skills, and help strengthen programs that are already facilitated by the community. Volunteers may also propose self-directed projects based on observed community needs.

Daily life is immersive and deeply tied to community. Volunteers share meals, participate in village events, and experience the rhythm of rural Cambodia while contributing to meaningful, locally driven work.

What Volunteers Do

Volunteers have the opportunity to support several programs, depending on their interests and community needs:

  • Assist with teaching at our afterschool programs
  • Support Cambodian teachers through training and conversational practice
  • Help develop educational resources and technology initiatives
  • Participate in after-school activities, youth engagement, and special projects
  • Build relationships that encourage cultural exchange and mutual learning

The goal is not to replace local educators, but to strengthen our existing programs.

Living in the Community

Volunteers live in the CVF Volunteer House, located on the Bill and Nancy Kaun Khlong Primary School campus, allowing for daily interaction with students, teachers, and neighbors. This placement provides a rare opportunity to experience authentic village life while forming lasting connections. Volunteers quickly become known not as visitors, but as members of the local community.

Lasting Impact

Volunteers contribute to work that continues long after their time in Cambodia ends. Past participants have helped introduce new teaching strategies, develop curriculum resources, expand extracurricular opportunities, and strengthen confidence among students learning to engage with a wider world.

Just as importantly, volunteers leave with transformed perspectives, meaningful relationships, and a deeper understanding of global education and community development.

Get Involved

We welcome volunteers who are adaptable, collaborative, and eager to learn from the community as much as they serve it.
