New Football Stadium in Prey Touch

Prey Touch Commune has a new football (soccer) stadium thanks to a $62,000 donation from the Timothy Sykes Foundation.  The stadium, on the grounds of Prey Touch Secondary School, was dedicated on November 17, 2017 with a gala event featuring dancers, bands, circus performers and, of course, football games. The deputy governor of Battambang Province was the keynote speaker.  Dancers, musicians and acrobats from Battambang’s famous Phare Ponleu Selpak Circus performed during the awards portion of the dedication and during the halftime break between football matches.

The first official game at the stadium was between two girls’ teams, Bill’s Bears and Nancy’s Nighthawks, with the Bears winning 1-0.  That was followed by a game between Cameron’s Cougars and Tim’s Tigers, with Cameron Siskowic scoring the winning goal.  A spectacular fireworks show was followed by releasing hundreds of fire-lanterns.  One of Battambang’s top rock bands played into the night, entertaining thousands of villagers who turned out for the event.
